“Seen and Unseen” is a wearable art piece made from plastic window blinds that applies the function of the original item to the new context of underwear.
“Blinds are used to close off a space, and by performing this act the space is defined as public or private. Similarly, a woman wears a particular, nice set of bra and underwear—not quite lingerie, not quite everyday cotton—that operates both in the private or semi-public sphere. The wearer of this type of undergarment has the agency to decide when to define her body as private (for herself underneath everyday clothing) or public (for herself and someone else in a sexual setting).”
